The "Increasing Resilience of Local Authorities for Forest Protection and Wildfires" project, led by Pozantı Municipality and supported by the EU, started on 1 November 2023 and will run until 31 October 2024. The opening meeting was held in Pozantı on 18 December 2023.
The project involves the municipalities of Pozantı, Karaisalı, Aladağ, Kozan and İmamoğlu and Çukurova University from Türkiye, and the Municipality of Rafina-Pikermi and KEAN from Greece. The aim of the project is to increase the capacity of local authorities in both countries in the areas of climate change, forest protection and wildfire preparedness.
Planned activities include
- Sustainable cooperation between municipalities,
- A climate vulnerability analysis and report,
- Development of policy documents and an action plan,
- Training and seminars for young people,
- Creation of a digital platform for sharing experience.
The project also aims to raise public awareness of climate change in both Türkiye and Greece.
