Technical visit from Greece to Pozantı

The second technical visit to Türkiye took place with the participation of KEAN representatives; the fire lookout tower and Belemedik Canyon were visited.

As part of the "Increasing Resilience of Local Authorities for Forest Protection and Wildfires" project, funded by the European Union, the second technical visit to Türkiye took place with the participation of Pozantı Mayor Ali Avan, project coordinator Necati Burak Öztürk, project secretary Beyza Yıldırım, and Olga Gourdomichali and Stella Koukoutsi from KEAN. On the first day of the visit, Mayor Ali Avan welcomed the participants in his office.

During the technical visit, the group visited the Pozantı Armutoluğu fire lookout tower. While giving general information, the officer in charge of the tower, Ali Bey, also made a point of brewing tea especially for our guests. The artificial water pond built for use in firefighting was then presented.

Also during the technical visit, Project Manager Olga Gourdomichali gave a presentation on "Greece's Wildfire Prevention Strategies: The Case of PESYDAP". The similarities and differences between these strategies and the practices in Türkiye were discussed. Deputy Mayor Mehmet Öner, who has previous experience in this field, shared his experience with the participants. In the time remaining after the presentations, the group visited Belemedik Canyon, a natural wonder of Pozantı that also contains a significant part of its forest areas.
